"Sustainability in Action!"
The Liu research group focuses on electrochemical energy storage, electrocatalysis, and homogenous catalysis employing earth abundant element based catalysts and materials. We strive to achieve sustainable, economical, and environment-benign energy and chemical transformations and to address the global energy and environment challenges simultaneously. Our research is highly multidisciplinary embracing inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, materials science, and electrochemical engineering.

The Liu group has openings for undergraduate assistants, graduate students, postdoc researchers, and visiting scholars. Motivated students and PhD chemists are welcome to join our research program. See our opening page for details.
190410 Bo's paper entitled "Electrochemical Nitrogen Reduction to Ammonia by Mo2N: Catalysis or Decomposition?" was accepted as an Energy Express paper by ACS Energy Letters! Congratulations to Bo and other co-authors. [Link]
190330 Leo delivered an invited talk at 2019 Spring ACS on viologen flow batteries and hang out with many friends.
190325 Our 2nd ChemRxiv preprint was submitted for Bo's NRR work entitled "Electrochemical Nitrogen Reduction to Ammonia by Mo2N: Catalysis or Decomposition?" [Link]
190308 Two papers were accepted by J. Mater. Chem. A and Dalton Trans. on the same day. Our JMCA paper entitled "A 1.51 V pH Neutral Redox Flow Battery towards Scalable Energy Storage" was also selected as one of 2019 JMCA Hot Papers. Congratulations to Jian, Wenda, and other co-authors. Check it out here [Link].
190305 Our MgFPB manuscript was accepted as a very important paper (VIP) by ACIE. Congratulations to Jian, Yujing, and other co-authors. Check it out here [Link].
190211 We submitted our 1st preprint to ChemRxiv on "A Stable, Non-corrosive Perfluorinated Pinacolatoborate Mg Electrolyte for Rechargeable Mg Batteries". [Link]
190209 Our Joule paper was exclusively highlighted by a Joule Preview entitled "Return of the Iron Age" by Prof. Ulrich Schubert from Friedrich Schiller University Jena (Germany) [Link].
190205 Leo received the NSF career award! What a graceful and timely🧧 red packet to my group during the Chinese 🐷 New Year! The credit goes to all of the hard-working and bright students, postdocs, and visiting
scholars (current and past) in my group.
190127 Bo Hu was recognized as the College of Science Doctoral Researcher of the Year! Congratulations!
190104 Leo had an interview with Chinese Science Daily (中国科学报) to discuss the status and opportunities of redox flow batteries for broad energy storage applications. Check it out here [Link].
190102 We received the USU Research Catalyst grant to support our Mg battery work. We appreciate the support!
190101 Leo received the 2018 Scialog Fellowship co-funded by Sloan Foundation and Research Corporation on Science Advancement to develop advanced redox flow batteries. Thanks very much for the opportunity! Happy New Year!
