181110 Leo as a Scialog fellow attended 2018 Scialog Conference and met many friends. Lots of exciting discussions on next energy storage technologies and some of us stayed late to write the two page proposals--What a fun!
181108 Leo visited the Molecular Foundry at LBL as a board member of the MF Proposal Committee. LBL has a beautiful campus!
181102 Our Joule paper [Link] was highlighted by Science Magazine, "Advances in flow batteries promise cheap backup power. Science 2018, 362 (6414), 508-509." [Link]
181025 Jian and Bo's Joule [Link] and Chem [Link] papers were accepted on the same day! What a surprise! Check them out! Congratulations to all co-authors! In the Joule paper, we reported the most stable aqueous organic redox flow battery--no capacity decay in 1000 cycles at 24.1 Ah/L.
181023 Leo gave an invited talk at the 2018 Defense TechConnect Summit and received the conference Innovative Challenge award on the behalf of Utah State University.
181015 Bo's EIBC book chapter on inorganic energy storage materials was accepted. Congratulations to all co-authors!
180901 Liping, Wenda, and Maowei joined the group as our brand new group members! Welcome and enjoy the new chapter!
180821 Leo gave an invited talk on Mg batteries at the Boston ACS meeting. Thanks Jennifer Schaefer from Notre Dame University for the invitation!
180806 Leo's group attended the inaugural Utah Energy Symposium which was co-oragnized by USU, UU and BYU. Many amazing and excellent electrochemistry talks!
180728 Leo was invited by Science Magazine to comment on a recent organic redox flow battery published in Joule by the Harvard Aziz and Gordon group. [Link]
180720 Bo was awarded Seely-Hinckley Scholarship by USU RGS to support his PhD program. Congratulations!
180709 Leo organized the TRSC Workshop on "Molecular Chemistry in Energy Storage". What a fruitful meeting on diverse topics including electrolyte chemistry, electrode materials, and electrocatalysts. Thanks all participants!
180501 Bo's manuscript entitled "Improved Radical Stability of Viologen Anolytes in Aqueous Organic Redox Flow Batteries", was accepted by Chem. Commun. [Link] This is an invited contribution to the themed collection: 2018 Emerging Investigators. This is also an collaboration with Prof. Yisong Guo from Carnegie Mellon University. Congratulations to all!
180427 Our undergraduate researcher, Alyssa Sam, received two recognitions, ACS Undergraduate Researcher in Organic Chemistry and Department Undergraduate Researcher of the Year! Congratulations!
180427 Kevin received Department Teaching Assistant Award of the Year! Congratulations!
180406 Cam received ECS Travel Grant for his 1st time to the ECS conference in Seattle! Congratulations!
180312 Leo gave an invited talk and also served as session chair at the 2018 TMS Spring Conference (thank Guihua for the invitation). 1st time to attend the conference as well as visit Phoenix.
180310 Our ACIE paper entitled "A π-Conjugation Extended Viologen as Novel Two-Electron Storage Anolyte for Total Organic Aqueous Redox Flow Battery" was Highlighted by Utah State Today, Phys.org, and Sciencedaily, "Two better than one".
180305 We adopted artemia (tiny brine shrimp) from Great Salt Lake as our lab pet! We found these tiny creatures during our flow battery studies. Have fun! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BI2ckT246Lg
180302 Ju Sun from Dr. Dawei Wang's group at South New Wales University joined us as a visiting graduate student for a jointed project on Mg batteries.
180216 Bo's paper entitled "Two Electron Utilization of Methyl Viologen Anolyte in Nonaqueous Organic Redox Flow Battery" was accepted by J. Energy Chem. This is an invited contribution to the featured issue of the journal on "Redox Flow Batteries". Congratulations!
